Who Is Dr. Scott?
I am a service-disabled 20-year Air Force veteran with a PhD in Social Psychology, and I have worked from inside the VA system. As a Senior Program Analyst, I supported the creation of the congressionally mandated VA Benefits and Services curriculum, the same course every separating service member is required to attend. As a VA Benefits Advisor Site Lead, I have conducted 620+ individual counseling sessions and 100+ group briefings reaching 1,800+ veterans and service members.
That background matters for one reason: I don't just know what the VA says it will do. I know how the system actually works, where it falls short, and what you can do about it.
I founded RYZUP Consulting to offer something that the standard benefits process rarely provides: individualized, unhurried, expert attention to your specific situation, which enables you to advocate for yourself.
That is the gap I fill. I am not a form filer. I am not a VSO or claims agent moving cases through a pipeline. I am a benefits mentor who sits down with your specific service history, walks through your situation with you, and helps you understand exactly where you stand and what your next move should be.
I also do not take a percentage of your disability award, ever. The hourly fee covers the session. What you earn from your benefits stays with you.
In a mentoring session, we work through your situation together, so you leave knowing:
-
Which benefits your specific service history actually opened, across VA and military programs, not just disability compensation
-
What is in your record, how to request what is missing, and what it means
-
Where the gaps are between what you are receiving and what you qualify for
-
How to navigate VA.gov, MilConnect, and the systems you will keep using long after our session ends
-
What your next step is, in order, with the reasoning behind it

The RYZUP Consulting Story
What is the Concept of RYZUP?
I was 22 years old, a junior NCO at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia, when I wrote down five letters. The year was 1991. The idea behind them was simple enough to fit on one line: every person carries more potential than they have used.
RYZUP. Reach Your Zenith Utilizing (your) Potential. In the thirty-five years since, Persistence, Prayer, Power, and Positivity grew up around it, and somewhere along the way it stopped being a personal creed and became a practice.
Because that first idea turned out to describe something specific about the veterans I work with. You served. That service opened doors nobody ever showed you. Most of the veterans who sit down with me are carrying unused potential in the most literal sense there is: benefits they earned, that are sitting there, that no one has ever walked them through.
That is what unused potential looks like on a benefits statement.
When you work with RYZUP Consulting, you are not a case number. You are someone who served, and you deserve to understand every benefit that service made available to you.
