Why should I pay for benefits mentoring when VSOs are free?

It is a fair question and worth answering directly.

Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs) like the Wounded Warrior Project, DAV, VFW, and American Legion are best known for helping veterans file VA disability claims, and they do that well. If filing or tracking a claim is your primary need, a VSO is a legitimate free option, and I will tell you that honestly on your free Snapshot call. The same goes for a DVOP or your state veterans services office when the need is employment or a state-level benefit.

If your situation calls for a detailed medical records review and formal claims filing, I will refer you directly to a VSO or a qualified claims professional who specializes in that work.

Where RYZUP Consulting fills a different need is in everything surrounding that process. Understanding which benefits you actually qualify for across the full VA and military landscape, not just disability compensation. Requesting and interpreting your service records. Walking through VA.gov, MilConnect, and other systems step by step until you can navigate them confidently. Building a strategy before anything gets filed.

Those are the conversations that rarely happen inside a high-volume claims process, and they are the ones that determine whether you walk away with the full picture of what your service made available to you.

I do not take a percentage of your award. My fee is $80 per hour and it covers the session.

What you earn stays with you.

Can't I just use ChatGPT or another AI tool for this?

You can, and many veterans do. AI tools are genuinely useful for understanding how the rating schedule works in general, looking up a specific regulation, and walking through a standard form. Some veterans have gotten strong results with them.

Here is where they stop being useful:

They work from what you type into a box
They cannot read your service treatment records
They cannot ask you a follow-up
They do not know what you have not told them
They cannot identify what is missing from your file
and they cannot catch the secondary conditions that never come up in a keyword search

Most veterans do not know to mention what they do not know is relevant.

That matters more than it sounds. A secondary condition that never makes it into your file never gets rated. There is no deadline that closes on you, but the longer it sits unfiled, the more back pay you leave behind.

An Intent to File protects your effective date for up to a year, and most veterans I talk to have never heard of it.

What is the Benefits Eligibility Snapshot and how is it different from a paid session?

The Benefits Eligibility Snapshot is a free 15-minute call with one job: determining whether RYZUP Consulting is the right fit for your situation before you spend a dollar.

I ask you four questions about your service and where you stand today. You leave knowing whether a mentoring session makes sense and what your most important next step should be.

What the Snapshot is not: a free consultation on specific claim strategy, a C&P exam preparation session, a nexus or rating analysis, or a workaround to avoid paying for a session. That work happens in a paid mentoring session.

What happens during a session? Walk me through it.

When you book, the form asks about your service history and the specific benefits questions you want to address. I review your answers before we meet so your time is focused from the first minute.

During the session I walk through your situation, point out eligibility gaps you may not be aware of, explain the relevant VA and military benefits processes in plain language, and give you clear guidance on next steps. Sessions are held on Google Meet.

Afterward you receive a written action summary covering what we discussed and what to do next, so you leave with something concrete.

Do you record our sessions?

I use an AI transcription tool that captures audio on my end only, so I can send you accurate follow-up notes.

Nothing appears in the Google Meet window. Your conversation is not shared with anyone and is not used for anything beyond your session summary.

I say the same thing at the start of every call, so none of it is a surprise once we are talking.

How many sessions will I need?

Most clients with a focused benefits question resolve their immediate goals in one or two sessions. Clients working through more complex situations, such as an appeal, a rating increase strategy across multiple conditions, or a full benefits review for the first time, typically find three or more sessions useful.

I do not sell packages and I do not require commitments. Sessions are $80 per hour, or $75 per hour for returning clients. You book when you need them and stop when your goals are met.

Can you help me navigate VA.gov or file a claim directly?

Yes to the first part. I use Google Meet screen sharing to walk you through VA.gov, MilConnect, and other VA or military portals in real time. I do not file claims on your behalf.

RYZUP Consulting is a mentoring and education service. The goal is for you to understand the process well enough to advocate for yourself confidently, long after our session ends.

Do you write nexus letters or review medical records?

I do not write nexus letters and I do not provide medical record reviews.

What I can do is help you request a copy of your Service Treatment Records (STRs), explain what a nexus letter is and why it matters for your claim, and refer you to a provider whose clinical experience and specialty align with your specific condition.

That alignment matters more than most veterans expect. What carries weight is a provider who knows your condition and can explain the connection clearly, not a particular set of letters after a name.

I heard about the PACT Act. How do I know if it applies to me?

The PACT Act expanded VA benefits eligibility for veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, radiation, and other toxic substances.

If you deployed to Southwest Asia, Djibouti, or certain other locations after August 1990, or if you served in Vietnam, Korea, or at specific domestic bases with documented contamination, there may be presumptive conditions you qualify for that have never been filed.

There is no deadline that closes on you. If you are not ready to file a full claim yet, an Intent to File preserves your effective date for up to a year while you gather what you need.

My spouse and I both served. How does the Snapshot call work for us?

Book two separate Snapshot calls, one for each of you. Your service records, ratings, and eligibility gaps are your own even though you share a household, and fifteen minutes is enough time to do that work justice for one person, not two at once.

If you would like both calls scheduled back to back so you are not juggling two separate days, mention that when you reach out and I will personally set up two adjacent time slots.

The same applies if you move forward with mentoring. Each of you books your own session at $80 per hour, or $75 per hour if you are a returning client, since your situations are worked through individually rather than as a combined package.
